Roshni Samlal’s “Drum Rites: old forms|new encounters” seeks to create an interdisciplinary performance flow that is a series of new contexts for traditional tabla repertoire, through collaboration, relative to abstract sonic landscapes, poetry, visuals and dance. The evening will commence with a traditionally presented tabla solo, using kalimba loops and acoustic cello. She will also present newly composed material (for kora, oud and tabla) from her collaboration with composer, Kane Mathis project “Orakel.”

Roshni will also present two collaborative dance projects featuring dancers/choreographers, Brinda Guha and Emily Mcloughlin, the first, exploring the percussive interaction between kathak and tabla, the 2nd, a sonic, textual and moving meditation on bloodlines, life source, karma and fate.
